Addison Ritzenhein, a sophomore at Niwot High in Colorado and the Nike Cross Nationals champion, discusses being presented the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Player of the Year award by three-time NXN winner Katelyn Tuohy, a graduate of North Rockland High in New York and North Carolina State as well as an adidas professional athlete who was the Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year in 2018, along with a three-time national cross country award winner, in addition to a national track and field recipient during her prep career. Ritzenhein is the first sophomore to receive national cross country recognition since Tuohy was honored for the first time in 2018. Ritzenhein is the third female athlete from Colorado to receive the national cross country award from Gatorade, following Katie Rainsberger from Air Academy in 2016 and Brie Oakley of Grandview in 2017. She is also the first student-athlete from Niwot High to receive national recognition in any sport. Dathan Ritzenhein, Addison's father, was a two-time Gatorade state honoree in Michigan in 1999-2000 and 2000-01.
